There is something extra magical about visiting Magic Kingdom during the Halloween and Christmas seasons. One minute, Main Street, U.S.A. is filled with pumpkins, costumes and happy haunts. A few weeks later, the park transforms with Christmas decorations, holiday music and snowfall on Main Street.

Two of the biggest seasonal events at Walt Disney World are Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Both are separately ticketed events at Magic Kingdom with exclusive entertainment, special Character appearances and experiences you won’t find during a regular park day. But if you only have time—or room in your vacation budget—for one, which Disney party should you choose?
Here’s our comparison of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party vs. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party for 2026.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2026

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, commonly called MNSSHP, takes over Magic Kingdom on select nights from August 7 through October 31, 2026.
The party officially runs from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, but guests with a party ticket can enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The atmosphere is what makes this event so much fun. Magic Kingdom becomes a family-friendly Halloween celebration filled with costumes, candy, Disney villains, and special entertainment.
Trick-or-Treating Around Magic Kingdom

Yes, adults can trick-or-treat too!
Guests can make their way through treat locations around Magic Kingdom, collecting candy throughout the evening. It’s one of those experiences that sounds like it’s primarily for kids until you see just how many adults are walking around the park with bags full of candy.
For families, it adds another fun activity between attractions, Character appearances, and entertainment.
Exclusive Halloween Entertainment
For me, this is one of the biggest reasons to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
The party features entertainment you normally won’t see during regular Magic Kingdom hours, including Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular and the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular.
The Hocus Pocus show brings the Sanderson Sisters together with Disney villains such as Oogie Boogie, Maleficent, and Dr. Facilier.
And if you’ve never seen Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, it’s worth experiencing at least once. The combination of Disney Characters, Halloween music and the Headless Horseman creates one of the most unique parades at Walt Disney World.
Special Attraction Experiences
A few Magic Kingdom attractions receive special touches during the Halloween party.
For 2026, Disney lists experiences including Space Mountain in complete darkness with spooky music, special lighting effects on the Mad Tea Party, and trick-or-treating at Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor.
These little changes make attractions you’ve probably ridden many times feel surprisingly different.
Costumes at Magic Kingdom
Another big advantage of the Halloween party is the opportunity to dress up.
Adults normally face significant restrictions on wearing costumes in Walt Disney World theme parks, but costumes are permitted during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party as long as guests follow Disney’s event costume guidelines.
You’ll see everything from simple Disney-inspired shirts to families with elaborate coordinated costumes.
What’s New for 2026?
Disney has also announced a new experience for the 2026 party featuring Stitch, Lilo and Angel in an ever-changing masquerade in Tomorrowland.
That gives returning guests something new to experience this year.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 2026

Once Halloween ends, Magic Kingdom makes an incredible transformation.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, or MVMCP, takes place on select nights from November 8 through December 22, 2026.
Like the Halloween party, the Christmas party runs from 7:00 p.m. until midnight, and guests with a valid party ticket can enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4:00 p.m.
If Christmas is your favorite time of year, the atmosphere is hard to beat.
Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade
One of the highlights is Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.
Disney Characters celebrate the season alongside toy soldiers and other holiday favorites as the parade makes its way through Magic Kingdom, eventually arriving on Main Street, U.S.A.
And, of course, you might even spot Santa Claus.
Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks
The Christmas party also features Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks.
Holiday music, projections and fireworks over Cinderella Castle create one of the signature moments of the evening.
Holiday Treats
Another fun part of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is making your way around Magic Kingdom enjoying the included seasonal treats available at locations throughout the park.
Disney describes the event as including holiday treats and festive sips, giving you another reason to explore different areas of Magic Kingdom during the evening.
Special Disney Characters
Both parties offer opportunities to see Disney Characters, but Christmas brings its own personality.
Characters appear dressed in their holiday best, making these meet-and-greets especially popular with families who want unique Christmas photos.
The Christmas Atmosphere
This may be the Christmas party’s biggest advantage.
There is something special about walking down Main Street, U.S.A., surrounded by Christmas decorations, holiday music, and Disney’s version of snowfall.
Even if you’ve visited Magic Kingdom dozens of times, the park feels different during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party vs. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
So, which Disney party is better?
That really comes down to what your family enjoys most.

Choose Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party if you:
- Love Halloween, Disney villains and the Haunted Mansion side of Disney
- Want to dress in costume
- Enjoy trick-or-treating
- Want to see Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade
- Prefer a fun, playful and slightly spooky atmosphere
Choose Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party if you:

- Love Christmas decorations and holiday music
- Want a classic, nostalgic Disney atmosphere
- Enjoy holiday treats and entertainment
- Want unique Christmas Character photos
- Have always wanted to experience snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A.
Which Disney Party Would We Choose?
This is a tough one.
For entertainment and something completely different from a normal Magic Kingdom day, I think Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has an edge. Between the costumes, trick-or-treating, Disney villains and Boo-to-You Parade, there is a lot you simply don’t experience during an ordinary visit.
But for atmosphere, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is hard to beat. Magic Kingdom at Christmas already feels special, and the party takes that experience another step further.
If your vacation allows it, both are worth experiencing at least once.
And if you’re a Disney Vacation Club Member—or you’re staying in a DVC villa during one of these seasons—either party can be a great addition to a Walt Disney World vacation.
