Best Disney Resort-Only Stays: Top Picks for Relaxing Beyond the Parks
When most people think of a Walt Disney World vacation, the parks are the first thing that comes to mind. However, some of the best trips happen without ever stepping into a park. A Disney resort-only stay can be just as magical. With pools, dining, entertainment, and unique experiences, these trips often feel more relaxed and refreshing.
As a local (and a Disney Vacation Club member), I’ve discovered that some of my most memorable visits come from simply enjoying the resorts themselves. If you’re curious about the best Disney resorts without parks, here are my top recommendations.
My Top Resorts for a Disney Resort-Only Stay
Each Disney Vacation Club resort has its own personality. Still, when I want to relax and skip the parks, these three are always at the top of my list:
Animal Kingdom Disney Spring’s Riviera Resort
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Animal Kingdom Lodge is ideal for hot summer days. For example, the Kidani Village pool is one of my favorites, and the dining options — like Sanaa and Jiko — are among the best at Walt Disney World. In addition, there’s always something to do between Jambo House and Kidani. And, of course, nothing compares to watching animals from your balcony.

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
By contrast, Saratoga Springs shines for its proximity to Disney Springs. Shopping, dining, and live entertainment are all just a short walk or boat ride away. Personally, I love the evening walk back to the resort — it’s peaceful, relaxing, and a great way to end the night holding hands with your loved ones.

Disney’s Riviera Resort
Meanwhile, Riviera Resort feels like the ultimate staycation. The pool area is large yet never feels crowded. Plus, the dining is outstanding — Topolino’s Terrace is a must for both breakfast and dinner. Another perk is the Skyliner, which offers quick access to nearby resorts such as Pop Century, Art of Animation, the BoardWalk, and the Beach Club. Each one is only a short ride away and worth strolling through.

Why Try a Resort-Only Disney Stay?
Of course, I love park days, but there’s something special about relaxing and enjoying the resorts themselves. You can lounge by the pool, try new restaurants, or simply take in the theme and atmosphere. In fact, Disney’s attention to detail in its resorts is incredible, and there’s always something new to notice. Best of all, there are plenty of things to do at Disney resorts throughout the day.
As a Disney Vacation Club member, this type of trip is even easier. Because I can visit more often, I don’t feel pressured to be in the parks every time. Instead, I get to relax, explore, and enjoy everything the DVC resorts have to offer.
If you haven’t tried a resort-only Disney vacation, I highly recommend it. You might just discover a whole new way to experience Walt Disney World — one that’s flexible, relaxing, and every bit as magical without the cost of a Park Ticket.
